What Makes The Speedway IV Exceptional?

Comparing the Speedway IV to the Mini4:

No other Electric Kick-scooter being sold in the US today offers as much capability for the dollar as the Mini4; what then, can the Speedway IV possibly offer beyond what’s provided with the Mini4? The answer is quite a lot more, these features are explained below:

  • Massive Battery Pack: whereas the  Mini4 is comparatively massive 748Wh battery, that on the Speedway IV is nearly twice this size at 1,347Wh. Not only does this provide about twice the range, but as the cells work together in parallel, it also yields more power too.
  • More Powerful Motor: this motor is rated for 20% more sustained power than the Mini4 & up to 30% more peak power (1200W max) to meet the needs of extreme acceleration, or climbing a steep incline.
  • Larger 10″ Wheels: the SW IV has 10″ wheels fitted, both front/back with wider 2.5″ air tires, this compares with the 8″x 2.0″ tires on the Mini4, where just the front tire has air.
  • Front/Rear Brakes: there are disc brakes fitted to both the front & rear wheels, the Mini4 has a single rear drum brake on the rear wheel. Also, with the more powerful motor, the regenerative brake on the rear Wheel has a superior potential braking force.
  • Better Suspension: SW IV has front spring/hydraulic suspension & adjustable dual air shock-absorbers mounted on the rear; there is no front suspension on the Mini4.
  • Improved Folding Mechanism: folding/unfolding the latch mechanism on the Mini4 requires a specific sequence of, 1)  applying the brake lever to relieve weight on the latch, 2) pushing down with your heal on the lever, 3) then pulling back to close the handle, it can be challenge initially… The folding mechanism on this scooter has been completely redesigned to make it practically fool-proof.
  • Lighting, Horn, & Turn Signals: similar to the Mini4, the SW IV also has the cool front/rear deck lighting, but in addition, there is also a centre head/braking light, horn, & a set of turning signals.
  • Easier Maintenance: changing a tire is designed to be simple & practically effortless; by unfastening a couple screws on the rear Wheel, the tire assembly easily slides out.

How Does It Compare?

Feature Summary of the Speedway IV

Background of the Minimotors/Speedway:

Electric kick-scooters have existed in some form or another for well over a decade. Until a relatively recently, the majority of these scooters were powered by extremely heavy Lead-acid batteries, which limited their range, power & usefulness. Advances in battery energy density, electronics & motor design are creating a quiet revolution with these kick scooters. At around 50lb, the Speedway IV provides an astonishing set of performance traits, that offer unrivalled balance of low weight, performance at the an unbeatable price.

While electric scooters are beginning to gain traction in the US, in countries, like Korea, Speedway—a division of Minimotors—has been producing advanced state-of-the-art scooter designs since 1999. In the performance class of scooter, there is really no serious large equivalent contender in this space; Minimotors/Speedway are unquestionable the market leader, who have built up a solid reputation for quality & mind-boggling performance across all their Electric kick-scooter range.

Control Features Functionality

The Speedway’s Dashboard offers a concise easy to read layout of all the essential information you need for your journey, displaying: current speed, battery level, running time, odometer & the current power mode. Being backlit, it’s also completely readable while riding at night.

Some of the configurable settings are:

  • Speed control
  • Start method selection: instant, or push off
  • Cruise-Control mode
  • Electronic brakes settings: sensitivity of the electronic brakes
  • Speed Display (Kilometer  Miles)

Unsurpassed Suspension:

While the suspension on the Mini4 is comparatively very good , the system fitted on the larger Speedway IV is simply unrivalled. Whereas the Mini4 has a pneumatic tire on the front to absorb impacts, the Speedway IV also has a dual spring-loaded dampers with up to 3″ of travel, making it much more comfortable to use poor quality terrain.

On the rear Wheel it’s even more impressive, at the articulated joint it is fitted with an adjustable set dampeners that can be adjusted to your weight or ride hardness preference. In contrast with the Mini4, which has a solid rubber rear tire, both the front & rear Wheels are tires, all these features combined give you one of the smoothest & most comfortable rides possible in an electric kick-scooter.

The Optional Seat:

An optional seat can be fitted onto the foot-board, allowing you to rest your legs for those long rides. All it takes to install is a regular screwdriver & requires about 1-2 minutes. The seat will be sold separately for $100.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Speedway IV water-resistant, can I use it in the rain?
The manufacturer’s recommendation is that you try to avoid excessively wet condition, puddles & standing water. Although there have been measure to seal up the entry points to the battery compartment, etc, if it is very wet, it may be possible to do damage to the Scooter by riding it through these conditions.
  • What type of warranty is there on the Speedway IV?
We offer a one year warranty for the parts & labour. It does not include the shipping costs, which may be between $30-$125 (within the US), depending on the distance from our repair centre. While other dealers of Electric Scooters typically only offer a 3-6 warranty for the battery pack, we standby all our products with a full one year warranty. Exclusions to the warranty are wear-and-tear & improper use, please refer to our warranty page for the full terms & conditions.

  • How many charge/discharge cycles can one expect from the battery pack?
This depends on many different factors: the weight of the Rider(s), high usage of regenerative braking, frequent hill usage, how hard it’s used, weather conditions (extreme cold is not good for batteries), & probably most importantly the end-point charging voltage. If you use the 5A fast-charger & set the termination point to 80%, this single action alone can extend the lifespan of the battery by up to 4-5 time!
  • Will you be offering spare parts? What spares will I expect to need over time?
Yes, part of being a ‘full service’ Company is that we offer the largest selection of spare parts for all our products. You can find a list of available parts through our online store https://www.ewheels.com/product-category/parts-speedway/
  • Is there a seat available for SW IV?
Yes, the seat bolts into the foot platform & can be purchased separately for $98.
