Key Features of the Dualtron Spider

Dualtron Spider Brochure, Part 2
Dualtron Spider Brochure, Part 1

The Dualtron Spider represents a significant leap forward in the innovation of Electric Scooters. Until now, choosing an Electric Scooter meant there was the choice between a light but weak scooter with a small battery pack, or dual-motor Monster weighing more than 60lb. Now with the Spider, one can have the best of both worlds, which has a >1kWh battery pack, dual-motors for superior climbing, & an impressive 37MPH max speed, but tips the scale at just 2lb more than the single motor Speedway III, which has 400Wh less battery capacity.

What has enabled this technological breakthrough, are a pair of ultra-light, but high performing motors, rated for 660W output each, or 3000W peak. These are nearly half the weight of comparable motors  used in the other Dualtron models. The Engineers examined & redesigned every element of the scooter, using stronger, lighter weight materials, like carbon-fiber, to keep the total weight below the critical 44lb figure. Perhaps what’s most remarkable, is that the Spider does not sacrifice much range or performance as a consequence of this weight shaving exercise, with a top speed of 37+ MPH & the 1kWh still offers a generous 42 miles of range.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How is the Dualtron Spider able to achieve such impressive performance for the weight?
The Spider was designed around the specific requirement that it must be 20kg/44lb. To attain this design objective, the Spider’s components were created from the ground up to maximize weight savings. It is currently the only scooter being made today with dual-motors, 1kWh battery & capable of sustaining +35MPH.
  • What are some of the downsides of Spider?
It’s more expensive than a comparable earlier Dualtron 2 scooter. With the narrower 10 x 2″ tires, vs the 10 x 2.5″ tires on the DT 2 EX, it is not as forgiving on bad roads, nor as stable as with other larger tires. It’s also shorter & more compact, with less standing space than on the other Dualtron models. Furthermore, the scooter has air-filled tube tires, which are more susceptible to flats than the tubeless tires on the Dualtron 3 & Thunder.
  • Will there be a trolley kit available as there is on the Mini4?
    Unfortunately not at this time.
  • Is the Spider water-resistant, can I use it in the rain?
The Manufacturer’s recommendation is that you try to avoid excessively wet conditions, puddles & standing water. During assembly, the factory has sealed up the entry points to the battery compartment, etc; however, if it is very wet, water may find its way into the sensitive interior, resulting in water related damage.
  • What type of battery cells does the Spider have? How many charge/discharge cycles can one expect from the battery pack?
For the highest possible capacity with the smallest weight/size, the Spider is equipped with the LG MJ1 3.5Ah 18650 cells. The lifespan of the battery depends on a variety of factors: the weight of the Rider, high usage of regenerative braking, frequent hill use, how hard it’s driven, weather conditions (freezing temperatures are not ideal for Li-ion batteries), & most importantly the end-point charging voltage. If you use the 5A fast-charger & set the termination point to 80%, this single action alone can extend the lifespan of the battery by up to 4-5 times! The other benefit of partial charging, is that it lowers the risk of degrading your battery pack through the use of regenerative braking on a full charge.
  • Will you be offering spare parts? What spares will I expect to need over time?
Yes, part of being a ‘full service’ Company is that we offer the largest selection of spare parts for all our products. You will be able to find a list of available parts through our online store.
  • What type of warranty offered?
We offer a one year warranty for the parts & labour. It does not include shipping costs, which may be between $50-$150 (within the US), depending on the distance from our repair center in Tucson, AZ. While other dealers of Electric Scooters typically only offer a 3-6 warranty for the battery pack, we stand by all our products with a full one year warranty. Exclusions to the warranty are wear-and-tear & improper use, please refer to our warranty page for the full terms & conditions.
